Roland Neffe, percussion

Roland Neffe, born 1970 in Graz/Austria, is member of ensemble mosaik since 2003. He studied classical percussions and Jazz vibraphone at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and at the Meistersinger-Conservatoire Nuremberg, as well as with Gary Burton at the Berklee College of Music in Boston/USA and with David Friedmann at the University of Arts in Berlin, where he has been living since 1995. In addition to his engagement with ensemble mosaik, Neffe is member of the Austrian ensemble Studio Percussion since 1993 and examines in his own projects forms of improvisation and the threshold of serious and light music as in his most recent project Vibes Beyond. Neffe collaborates with various ensembles and bands ranging from contemporary music to Jazz. In the diverse range of projects, his wide musical spectrum led to collaborations with musicians and ensembles of the most different stylistics, amongst others with Rick Margitza, Michiko Hirayama, Bill Elgart and Frank Möbus, with the Kronos Quartett, the Dresdner Sinfoniker and the Rundfunkchor Berlin. With ensemble mosaik, he gave guest performances at a wide range of the most important international festivals for contemporary music and contributed to various broadcasting recordings and CD productions. Beyond that, he performed at percussion festivals in Paris and Vienna, at Jazz Ost West, at the Jazz festival Izmir and at the Drumfestival Seoul. A recording of his project Vibes Beyond has been released by JazzHaus.
